Instructions
Bake the Cake Layers
Prepare 3–4 cake layers using your favorite recipe. For a rainbow effect, divide the batter and color each portion with a different gel food coloring before baking. Let the layers cool completely.
Stack and Frost the Cake
Spread a layer of buttercream between each cake layer, then cover the entire cake with a smooth layer of white buttercream. Chill the cake to set the frosting.
Prepare the Decorations
- Horn: Paint the sugar cone with edible gold paint or luster dust. Allow it to dry completely.
- Ears: Shape the fondant into two ear shapes, with a smaller pink fondant piece inside for detail. Let them dry to hold their shape.
- Eyes: Roll out black fondant and cut out two curved shapes for the eyes.
Assemble the Cake
- Place the horn in the center of the cake's top.
- Insert the ears on either side of the horn.
- Attach the fondant eyes to the front of the cake using a small amount of buttercream.
Create the Mane
Divide the remaining buttercream into several bowls and color each with different gel food colorings. Fill piping bags with the colored frosting and pipe rosettes, stars, and swirls around the horn and down the side of the cake to create the mane.
Finishing Touches
Add sprinkles, edible glitter, or other decorations as desired. Your Unicorn Cake is now ready to dazzle!
Note
- Cake Flavor: Vanilla or funfetti cake works well, but you can choose any flavor that you like.
- Stability: If your cake is tall, consider using dowels or straws for extra support.
- Color Mixing: Start with small amounts of food coloring and add more gradually to achieve the desired shades.
